R-07 Practical Guide Conferences and Journalism

Do you worry about any of these things?

  • I need to be able to record for a really long time!
  • What if the batteries run out?
  • Digital recorders are complicated to use.
  • Once I’ve found the best mic position, it’s hard to operate the device.
  • I wish I could loop and/or slow my recordings down to hear them more accurately.

Extra-Long Runtime

The R-07 can record for up to 15 continuous hours with just two AA-size batteries. And if you run out of battery life and don’t have any spares on hand, you can power the unit with your standard 5V USB phone charger. The 8 GB microSD card that’s included with the R-07 will record 720 minutes of CD-quality (16-bit/44.1 kHz) audio. If you need to capture even longer recordings, a 32 GB SDHC card will store 2,950 minutes at CD quality or 32,350 minutes at 128 kbps MP3.

Ready to Go in an Instant

If you’re a journalist, you need to capture great-quality audio from interviews and press conferences at a moment’s notice. With the R-07’s built-in mic, scene memories, and quick-access panel controls, you’re ready to start recording wherever you are, right on the spot.

Remote Control for Optimum Recording Quality

Capturing longform events like conferences, lectures, and meetings with top-quality audio has many great advantages. If it’s for your personal use, it makes the speakers’ information much easier to hear on review. And if it’s destined for use in a podcast or video soundtrack, clear sound is essential. Thanks to the R-07’s support for wireless remote operation from a smartphone or Apple Watch, it’s simple to achieve great sound every time. Just place the R-07 in the optimum location near the speakers, and then control all recording operations from the comfort of your seat, wherever that may be.

Transcription and Review Features

After recording, you can easily loop specific regions with the A/B function, and also slow the playback speed up to 50 percent while maintaining the natural pitch of the subject. These are great timesaving features for reporters, students, and anyone who regularly needs to transcribe audio. It’s also possible to mark sections on the fly and speed up playback as much as 150 percent for quick reviewing.

Basic Recording Procedure

Conferences, Interviews, and Dictation

  • 1. For the quickest setup, press SCENE and select “Voice Memo.” It’s also possible to set the recording parameters manually and choose AGC as Limiter if you prefer.
  • 2. Place the R-07 in the desired position.
  • 3. Start recording.

Tips:

  • If you’re capturing multiple speakers in a meeting, place the R-07 to try and capture an even balance between all of them.
  • Even after you’ve set the R-07 at a good average distance from all speakers, it may still be difficult to achieve a balanced sound, as not everyone speaks at the same level. In situations like this, engage the auto-gain control (ACG) function. When ACG is on, the R-07 automatically adjusts the input gain in real time to always capture the optimum level.
  • The R-07 has a built-in thread mount, allowing you to attach the optional OP-MSA1 adaptor and mount the recorder on a mic stand. You might find this beneficial in some situations. There are many types of mic stands available, from small desktop tripods to large stands that can raise the recorder many feet in the air.
