Lawrence Insula Synth Rig

Artist Bio

From his roots in South East London, Lawrence Insula has risen to the heights of the modern music scene. He’s co-written in collaboration with some of the world’s biggest hit-makers, sprinkled fairydust over a catalogue of albums in his role as producer, and stepped onstage with a veritable roll-call of pop’s heavy-hitters, from Daley to Little Mix. Lawrence’s original instrument might have been the traditional electric bass, but it’s testament to this session ace’s versatility that he taught himself synthesis on joining Rita Ora’s lineup, and recreated the studio sounds from her Ora album using the new Roland JD-XA crossover synth. Driving the live show with his melodic grooves and visionary attitude to sound-creation, it’s no wonder this first-call musician was dubbed “one of the bass world’s rising stars” by Bass Guitar Magazine.

Lawrence Insula on the JD-XA

"The JD-XA is just a great-feeling board. The keys feel great. The knobs are really responsive. The sliders. Even the LED lights. Being able to programme a patch in about a minute, saving it all to USB, hiring another keyboard in the middle of nowhere, plugging in and going. It’s a great thing to have when you’re a touring musician and you don’t always have your own gear.”
