Dear Roland RE: Atlanta Christian College's CD-2e… By Roger Beale The voice faculty at Atlanta Christian College is excited about the recently purchased Roland CD-2e. So much so that multiple units were purchased. Half way through the semester we have yet to use it to its full capacity. But the best part of the CD-2e is that the entire vocal faculty learned the basic functions and recorded a lesson in less than five minutes, all with one finger operation. Now this is a product that everybody can use, faculty and students alike! When teaching a voice lesson you do not have time to log in to a computer, wait, move thru multiple windows, wait, and then place the arrow on an a circle an eight of an inch across, wait again, then record the lesson. This process consumes at least five minutes of a thirty minute lesson. With the CD-2e you insert a CD or SD card, hit record, and you are recording and teaching. This unit is simple to learn and even simpler to operate. One of the more advanced functions of the CD-2e is its ability to swap information back and forth between CD and SD cards. For example, a student enters the teaching studio with an accompaniment CD that our staff accompanist has made for them. The instructor inserts the CD and now has choices available to them. They can either use the CD-2e as a CD player, or drop the accompaniment to the SD card and record the singer with the previously recorded accompaniment, or go back to another CD-R or CD-RW and record the entire lesson. So far the students have chosen to leave with a “scratch track” performance of their song. This gives them an opportunity to hear the strengths and weaknesses of that day’s performance. Since we have only had the CD-2e for a little while, these are all the functions we have used so far. But there are many more that exist in this 7x11 inch electronic box. The voice faculty here at Atlanta Christian College can’t wait to try them all out. We just need a longer semester. Thanks to Roland for creating the CD-2e. “One button instead of fifteen mouse clicks!” Roger Beale Voice Coach The Voice House Adjunct Voice Faculty Atlanta Christian College
