VR-700 Powers the Apollo Roland and the Fourth Annual Power Awards By Corey Fournier The Fourth Annual Power Awards Gala celebration was held at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York City on May 7, 2010. The event featured many celebrities including the legendary Don Lewis who accompanied performances by the winners of the Most Powerful Voices Choir Competition on the Roland V-Combo VR-700 Keyboard. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the Gospel Music Channel, and Roland Corporation U.S., the online competition attracted Gospel choirs from all over the country. The large choir winner was Zion Movement from Chicago, Illinois. The small choir winner was James Andrews Choir and New Seasons from Indianapolis, Indiana. Both winning choirs received $5,000 in musical instruments and recording gear from Roland, including the brand new V-Combo VR-700 Keyboard, the AX-SYNTH Shoulder Synthesizer, KC-110 Battery-Powered Keyboard Amplifier, and CD-2e SD/CD Recorder with CS-15R Stereo Microphone Kit. Additionally, James Andrews Choir and New Seasons were chosen by EMI Gospel as the Grand Prize winner and will receive a professional coaching session from Gospel artist Myron Butler. “We’re honored to be here,” said James Andrews. “This is such a blessing – to be part of this amazing event and perform at the Apollo Theater. And we can’t wait to get back home and start using our new gear!” Another musical highlight of the evening was Kevin LaVar taking center stage for a solo piano/vocal performance on the RD-700GXF. “This is a wonderful instrument,” said Kevin. “I love how it sounds and it feels so real.” Kevin’s uplifting song received a boisterous ovation – which is high praise from an audience at the Apollo. The Power Awards will air on the Eternal Word Television Network in June, so tune in to see these inspirational performances.
