TR-08 Rhythm Composer

The TR-08 Rhythm Composer is the newest Roland Boutique instrument, inspired by the most famous drum machine of all time — the Roland TR-808.

The Roland TR-808 has featured on countless records and tracks — from chart-topping pop songs to underground classics — and is one of the most revered electronic musical instruments of all time. The booming bass drum, sizzling hi-hats, snappy snare, and that unmistakable cowbell, has formed the rhythmic foundation of many genres with a sound that is engrained in today’s music and culture.

The TR-08 brings the look, sound, and feel of the original 808 — with stunning accuracy — to the Roland Boutique format. From the instantly-recognizable red-orange-yellow-white markings, the shape of the sequencer buttons, switches and knobs are details that have been painstakingly reproduced to match the iconic recreation of sounds. Along with the aesthetic touches, the TR-08 contains new features like 16 sub-steps for fast rolls, independent trigger out track, compression/gain/tune for instruments and a selectable modified “long decay” bass drum for more of that legendary BOOM!

SH-01A Synthesizer

The SH-01A is the latest synthesizer in the Roland Boutique range — a faithful reproduction of the legendary grey monosynth, the Roland SH-101.

Released in 1982, the simplistic design of the “101” earned a legion of fans with its quick-to-program workflow, adept at creating anything from bright, edgy leads, to floor-shaking bass, punchy percussion and exciting sound effects. At its core is an iconic 100-step sequencer whose immediate interface has formed the foundation of countless classic electronic music tracks.

The SH-01A is a meticulous reproduction of the original — in both aesthetics and sound. Inspired design details include the same slider cap design, silver sequencer buttons, metal lever switches and limited-edition red and blue versions. The sounds of the SH-101 have been recreated with the acclaimed Analog Circuit Behavior technology —a solid, sonic foundation for a slew of new features including a four-voice POLYPHONIC mode, 64 preset patches, 64 sequencer patterns and more.

CLASSIC ROLAND INSTRUMENT : TR-808

TR-808

There are few musical instruments that have affected the course of modern music like the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. The term ‘808’ has an immediate sonic, electronic and aesthetic signature. Inside the all-analog monster lies a big, booming BASS of a kick drum that drives a robotic clap, a brash cowbell and sizzling cymbals for a future-symphonic rhythm track. Combined with its bold black body, scrolling lights and sixteen iconic-colored sequencer buttons, the TR-808 will always be unmistakable in its form and function. The day the TR-808 fell into the hands of visionary musicians and producers became the day that the idiosyncratic sound of the 808 found its voice. The 808 imparted a lasting impression on popular, electronic, hip-hop and R&B music. But perhaps its greatest legacy is that “808” means so many things to so many people. A simple rhythm box described by three-digits managed to transcend musical genres and reach a place of cultural significance. Its spirit and sound resonates to this day, inspiring new music and sub-genres with each generation of visionary. And so the cycle continues – much like its driving, looping patterns – forging a new path into the rhythmic future.

CLASSIC ROLAND INSTRUMENT : SH-101

SH-101

The synthesizer was the zeitgeist of music in the early 80’s. Almost every band on TV and radio featured at least one keyboard player, perched proudly behind a rack of synthesizers. This era of music saw performance and synthesis come to a convergence: the “synth star” and Roland SH-101 was born. Battery-powered, sleek lines, compact design, and wearable with a strap and grip, the SH-101 was designed to take center stage. But beneath its extroverted design lay a powerful monophonic synth voice that could transition from smooth to WILD… all at your fingertips. It wasn’t until the 90’s when this portable powerhouse was adopted by electronic music producers and featured in countless techno, house and electronica albums. The booming sub-oscillator, throbbing pulse-width modulation and simple 100-step sequencer combined for a sound that gave the “101” a cult following. Like the synth stars of decades passed, the Roland SH-101 continues to shine brightly, continues to be revered and continues to inspire.

Classic Roland Instrument : TR-909

TR-909

The TR-909 was the first drum machine with MIDI and due to the limitations of mid '80s technology it blended analog kick and tom drums with 6-bit digital samples for the hi-hats and cymbals. This hybrid approach meant that, even back in the early '80s, the TR-909 sounded unique. While other drum machines aimed for realism, the 909 found its true calling within the burgeoning techno scene of the late '80s, adopted by the pioneering electronic producers of Detroit and Chicago. Where the TR-808 was all about warmth and width, the 909 was all about precision and power, with clattering, metallic hi-hats, pummeling tom drums and that rib-cracking kick drum that became the beating heart of house and techno, as strong today as it was back then. The 909 is a cornerstone of electronic music, an integral part of the dance floor's DNA. To some, it's just a drum machine—for others, it's the pulse of youth culture; the only sound you hear when the lights go down.

TB-303

The TB-303 is a machine like no other. With an unmistakeable sonic signature brimming with warmth, energy and character, the iconic silver box defined the acid house movement of the late 1980s. Widely misunderstood at launch, the true revolution began several years later when electronic music producers rediscovered the quirky box, unleashing the hypnotic, liquid sound that captivated a generation. Powered by a single oscillator with either a square or sawtooth waveform, the true appeal of the TB-303 lay in the pattern sequencer and the filter. When combined with the cut off and resonance knobs, the 303 became a performance instrument that begged to be played, tweaked and experimented with. While we may never really understand why the 303 sound makes people want to dance, there's no denying its power, influence and enduring ability to get a party started—it just works, even after all this time.

Classic Roland Instrument : VP-330

VP-330

Launched in 1979, the VP-330 Vocoder Plus was a 10-band vocoder combined with a 49-note keyboard, and it quickly became the machine behind the popular 'talking robot' sound of the early '80s. But there was more to the VP-330 than met the eye, thanks to three onboard sound sources that could be played and blended with your voice. The string section was particularly expansive and lush, thanks to the ensemble circuitry that widened the sound, while the choir and human voice sounds could be used either subtly or in a more adventurous manner, depending on how much color you needed. The VP-330 also became a firm favorite with more experimental musicians who were interested in merging tonal textures to create something entirely new. Ethereal and majestic in equal measure, the VP-330 is a fascinating stop-off point on the evolutionary journey of electronic musical instruments, and it remains in demand and in use to this day.
