YouTube drumming sensation Meytal Cohen was born in Israel, the youngest of seven children. She started playing drums at 18, shortly before serving a mandatory two years in the Israeli Defense Forces. After moving to the United States at age 21 to study drumming at the LA Music Academy, she broke her back in a car accident. Meytal went back to Israel during the healing process, but returned within a year to resume her music education.
After graduation, Meytal spent the next few years practicing and taking on small gigs, but nothing came easy. Her big break came when she teamed up with two friends to film an electric violin version of “Toxicity” by System of a Down as an audition for America's Got Talent. While it didn’t get them on the show, the video went on to become very popular on YouTube.
This inspired Meytal to upload videos of herself drumming along with her favorite songs, and her popularity soon took off like a rocket. Over 120 videos later, she has more than 90,000,000 views and 500,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, plus over 700,000 Facebook likes.
Meytal recently introduced the Maximum Meytal drum instruction series on DVD, and is working on releasing her own original music as well. She’s excited about the opportunity to incorporate V-Drums and other Roland electronic percussion into her drumming videos and other music activities in the near future.
