R-07 Practical Guide Videographers

Do you worry about any of these things?

  • My digital camera can record amazing video, but the audio is not so great.
  • I need to cover all my sound capture needs with a small amount of gear.
  • Once I’ve placed an external recorder in the best position, it’s hard to operate the device.
  • When using more than one microphone, the cables really get in the way.
  • I’m concerned about dropouts when using wireless lavalier mics.
  • I’d like to increase the number of microphones or recorders, but I’m concerned that they will be difficult to set up and monitor.

Improve the Quality of Your Video Soundtracks

With its integrated stereo mic and hi-res audio certification, the R-07 is a great addition to any videographer’s arsenal. Instead of relying on your camera’s inferior built-in mic, you can mount the R-07 with a hot shoe adapter so it’s always pointing at the action. Weighing just 6 oz./150 g with batteries, it won’t disrupt the balance of your camera either.

Doubles as a USB Microphone and Audio Interface for iOS Devices and Computers

There might be times when you’d prefer to use a recording app on an iOS device or computer over a dedicated recorder. The flexible R-07 seamlessly morphs into this scenario, eliminating the need to use additional mics and an audio interface. By plugging the R-07 into your device via USB, its stereo microphone or line inputs can be used capture high-quality audio directly to your favorite recording software, and you’re able to monitor the sound through the unit as well. The R-07’s USB audio capabilities also make it a great tool for Skype calls, video streaming, and more.
*To connect with iPhone and iPad via USB, Apple's Camera Connection Kit is required.

Control Up to Four R-07 Recorders at Once with the Wireless Remote App

With the R-07 Remote app, it’s easy to operate up to four R-07 units simultaneously. You can place microphones on four different sources and control them all wirelessly from a central location, with no fussy cables to get in the way. You can control the recording functions on all R-07 units at once or independently, and even check the input levels of all units on one screen.

This remote-control capability is really beneficial in situations where you’d normally use lavalier mics and wireless audio systems. The R-07’s compact size is similar to a wireless transmitter pack, and you can connect a lav mic directly to its external mic input. By positioning the recording device directly on a speaker or performer, you’ll ensure that a recording won’t get ruined with dropouts, noise, or other interference that can occur with wireless audio.

Wireless Audio Monitoring

When using the R-07, it’s possible to monitor the sound being recorded with Bluetooth headphones, eliminating even more wires from your setup. And if your headphones are compatible with Qualcomm® aptX™ Low latency technology, the audio latency is only a single frame. To remotely monitor up to four R-07 units, use a multi-channel Bluetooth audio receiver connected to an external audio mixer and employ the R-07 Remote app to check levels and operate recording functions. Since all the audio is being captured directly to an SD card on each R-07, you can rest assured that your recordings will remain crystal clear even with an occasional Bluetooth monitoring disturbance.

Never Miss the Perfect Take

The ideal recording level can be set automatically using the rehearsal feature, which is easily accessed with a dedicated button on the top panel. For added insurance, you can engage the R-07’s audio limiter, and also simultaneously capture a backup recording at a reduced level that can be adjusted in 3 steps.
