R-09HR, R-09: SYMPTOM: Unable to Import Audio Files

The following article contains troubleshooting information in the event that you are having trouble importing audio files from a computer:

  1. Be sure that the audio files that you are trying to import are compatible with the R-09HR/R-09. The following is a list of audio file formats that the R-09HR/R-09 is compatible with:

    WAVE: Sampling Rate: 32/44.1/48/88.2/96 kHz, Bit Depth: 16/24 bits
    MP3: Sampling Rate: 32/44.1/48 kHz, Bit Rates: 32 - 320 kbps or VBR (Variable Bit Rate)
    NOTE: MP3 files must be MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 only. If you are unsure, check the conversion software you are using for this setting.

  2. Be sure that the file name extension is either .mp3 or .wav.

  3. If the song title begins with ".", it will be ignored and not displayed.\

  4. The R-09HR/R-09 can recognize file names that consist of ASCII characters (single-byte alphanumeric characters). The R-09HR/R-09 cannot identify file names that contains double-byte characters such as Japanese. Characters that can be used:

    (space) ! # $ % & ' ( ) + , – . 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ; = @
    A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z ] ^ _ `
    a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z { }

  5. We recommend placing the file in the root directory and not in any folders--for troubleshooting purposes. The following article will guide you through this:

  6. For troubleshooting purposes, we would recommend trying brand new, unused Alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries. Note: the R-09HR/R-09 is compatible with Alkaline and Nickel-metal hydride batteries only--Lithium or other battery types are not compatible. If you are using a power supply, be sure that you are using a PSB-6U power supply only--3rd party power supplies can cause the unit to not operate properly.

  7. Log onto your computer as a user with administrative privileges.

  8. Close/turn off system monitoring/anti-virus software temporarily--this may be preventing your R-09HR/R-09 from communicating with your computer properly.

  9. Connect the R-09HR/R-09 directly to your computer via USB. Do not connect to a USB hub while troubleshooting.

  10. Try a different SD memory card (if you have one available). Just to be sure that the SD card that you are using is not malfunctioning.

  11. You may have a fragmented memory card--due to improper ejection from a computer, power loss while recording, not formatting a new SD card, etc. We would recommend formatting the SD card to alleviate the possible fragmentation on the card. NOTE: Formatting the memory card will erase all data on the card.

  12. Try connecting the R-09HR/R-09 to a different computer (if you have one available). Just to rule out the computer being the cause of the issue from a virus or other reason.
