Q.When I connect a CY-12R/C or CY-15R to the RIDE input of a TD-6-series sound module, striking the edge causes the bow to sound. Why is this?

This will occur if you connect the CY-12R/C or CY-15R's BOW/BELL output to the TD-6's RIDE input and try to play the ride instrument in the TD-6's preset drum kits. In this case, you should use the CY-12R/C or CY-15R's BOW/EDGE output instead.

However, if you don't mind editing the drum kits on the TD-6, you can explore a few more ride instrument options. To understand these options better, let's take a closer look at using the CY-12R/C or CY-15R with the TD-6.

The CY-12R/C and CY-15R V-Cymbals feature two different trigger outputs: BOW/BELL and BOW/EDGE. When connecting both of these outputs to a TD-series module that supports three-way triggering, you can play three independent sounds with the V-Cymbal. Usually, you'd use this functionality to trigger the ride's bow, bell, and edge sounds.

A TD-6-series sound module, however, does not support the CY-12R/C and CY-15R's three-way triggering capability. If one of these V-Cymbals is connected to a TD-6-series module, only traditional two-way triggering is possible.

When connecting a CY-12R/C or CY-15R to a TD-6-series module, you should use only one of its trigger outputs at a time. As described earlier, you'll usually want to use the BOW/EDGE output. When connected in this way, the CY-12R/C or CY-15R's behavior will be the same as when a CY-6 or CY-8 is connected. This allows you to play the ride instrument in the TD-6's preset drum kits, and hear:

-- the bow sound when you strike the V-Cymbal's bow.
-- the edge sound when you strike the V-Cymbal's edge.

Although a TD-6-series module doesn't allow for true independent three-way triggering, it does supply a number of velocity-switching ride instruments that allow you to simulate the effect with strike velocity. By assigning the TD-6's ride instruments in the following manner, you'll be able to play bow, bell, and edge sounds on one V-Cymbal.

If you want to independently play just the bow and bell sounds, connect the CY-12R/C or CY-15R’s BOW/BELL output to the TD-6’s RIDE input and assign the TD-6’s instruments as follows:
