Q.Can I use a single SPD-20 pad to play the open and mute sounds of a triangle?

A.To play open/mute triangle using a single SPD-20 pad, create a layer with the open and mute sounds. Then, set the striking velocity to switch between the two sounds in the layer so that a strong strike will play the open (ringing) sound and a soft strike will play the muted (tick) sound.

Notes:

• Though you can't get a complete mute (silence) using just a single pad, you can hit the pad very softly as a substitute for a real silent mute.
  
• The SPD-20's open triangle sound is a half-note in length or less.
