R-1

24-bit WAVE/MP3 Recorder

Q.When recording on the R-1, the bar graph indicator that shows the recording level does not move beyond the center no matter how loud the input source gets. Why is this?

A.Check if the R-1’s limiter switch is set to on or not.
If the limiter switch is turned on, the input signal will be automatically limited to a specific level. It means that the bar graph indicator that shows the recording level will not move beyond the center no matter how loud the input source gets.

To turn off the R-1's limiter switch, use the following procedure.

  1. Press the [MENU] button.
  2. Use the VALUE dial to select "06: Limiter," and press the [ENTER] button.
  3. Use the VALUE dial to select "OFF," and press the [ENTER] button.
  4. Press the [EXIT] button to complete the procedure.
    Note:
  • If the limiter is on, you should adjust the input level so that the level meter barely reaches the fourth or fifth mark from the right when the recording source is loudest.
  • If the R-1's recording mode is set to MP3, it may sound as though the sound is distorting in certain situations. If this occurs, try a higher resolution MP3 setting or the WAV recording mode instead.
