Q.On a BR-series unit, can I send an input signal to the line and digital outputs without being in record mode? If so, can apply an effect to the signal as well?

A.Yes. Even if you're not recording, you can send signals arriving at the INPUT jacks to the LINE OUT jacks, and apply an effect (or effects) to them as well. The digital output jack always outputs the same signal as the LINE OUT jacks.

Note:
The actual number of inputs and effects that can be active at any one time is dependant on the specifications of the particular BR-series unit.
