This system program updates the TB-3 system program to the latest version 1.10.

How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your TB-3 before downloading the archive file.

  1. Hold down [ STEP REC ] button and [ REALTIME REC ] button, and switch on the power.
    The step number "1" of the 16-step indicators and the [PLAY/STOP] button blink.
  2. Press the [ PLAY/STOP ] button.
    The current version is displayed with three digits on the display.
    ( When Version 1.04 is used: 104 )
  3. After checking version of the product, power off the TB-3 without performing any button operation.
* Don't perform the update if the product is already up-to-date.

Bug Fixes
The following bug was fixed.
  • The sensitivity of the aftertouch differs depending on the touched position when the product is used in the XY PLAY mode or ENV MOD mode.

What you will need to update your TB-3
  • TB-3
  • AC adaptor
  • USB cable
  • A computer with a USB connector ( Windows 8 / 7 / Vista, Mac OS X )

Caution when performing the update
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the TB-3. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your TB-3 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the TB-3 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded "tb3_sys_v110.zip" file on your computer to get the update file in the "tb3_sys_v110" folder.

Procedure for the update
Caution
  • You must not rename the extracted file.
  • Never turn off the TB-3's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the TB-3 itself may be destroyed.

Please install the extracted system program file into your TB-3 according to the following procedure.
  1. Hold down [ KEYBOARD ] button and [ PTN SELECT ] button and switch on the power.
  2. Connect the computer to the TB-3's USB port by a USB cable.
    The [ KEYBOARD ] button blinks.
  3. Open the "TB-3" drive folder in your personal computer.
  4. Copy TB3_UPD.BIN in the "tb3_sys_v110" folder into the "TB-3" drive by dragging and dropping it.
    * Do not copy the "tb3_sys_v110" folder.
  5. After copying the file is completed, remove the USB drive from the personal computer.
    With Windows 8 / 7 / Vista
    Right-click on the "TB-3" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac OS
    Drag the "TB-3" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable.
    The [ XY PLAY ] button lights.
  7. Press the [XY PLAY] button to start updating the file.
  8. After updating processing is completed, all the eight buttons on the display ( between the [ KEYBOARD ] and [ PLAY/STOP ] buttons ) blink.
    * If an error occurs while updating is in progress, the [ TEMPO ] button blinks.
  9. Turn the TB-3 power off.
    Please verify the version number with the procedure described in "How to tell the version" part of this document.
  10. To keep existing created patterns, follow the steps below to back up the patterns.
    If keeping the existing patterns is not necessary, proceed to step 11.

    1. Hold down [ PLAY/STOP ] and switch on the power.
    2. Connect your computer to the TB-3’s USB port via USB cable.
    3. Open the "TB-3" drive folder on your computer.
    4. Copy the TB-3 pattern files in the "BACKUP" folder to your computer.
      Please refer to the "TB-3 Update ( TB-3_v110_e.pdf )" for detailed information.
    5. After copying is completed, disconnect the USB cable.
      With Windows 8 / 7 / Vista
      Right-click on the "TB-3" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
      With Mac OS
      Drag the "TB-3" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
  11. Follow the steps below to execute Restoring the Factory Settings (Factory Reset).
    1. While holding down the [ REALTIME REC ] button, turn on the power.
      The display indicates "rSt" and the [ PLAY/STOP ] button blinks.
    2. Press the [ PLAY/STOP ] button to execute the factory reset.
    3. When the display indicates "CNP," turn the TB-3's power off, then on again.
  12. Restore the patterns backed up in step 10 to the TB-3.
    Performing this step is not necessary if keeping existing created patterns is not required.
    1. Hold down [ PLAY/STOP ] and switch on the power.
    2. Connect your computer to the TB-3 USB port via USB cable.
    3. Open the "TB-3" drive folder on your computer.
    4. Copy the TB-3 pattern files into the "RESTORE" folder.
    5. End the USB connection and turn off the power to the unit.
      When the power is turned on again, the unit operates using the restored patterns.
      With Windows 8 / 7 / Vista
      Right-click on the "TB-3" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
      With Mac OS
      Drag the "TB-3" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
