  1. Make sure the power to the S-4000S, S-4000H, S-1608, S-0816, or S-2416 is turned off, then using the REMOTE cable, connect the S-4000R to the REMOTE connector on the unit.

  • Support for the S-2416 was added.

What you will need to update
Installing the system program in the S-4000R requires the following.
  • S-4000R
  • REMOTE Cable ( included with the S-4000R )
  • Any one of the S-4000S, S-4000H, or S-2416
  • A computer with a USB connector
    ( Windows 8 / Windows 7 / Vista / XP, Mac OS X )
  • Sequencer capable of correct playback of Standard MIDI Files
  • When using an S-4000S or S-4000H unit:
"MIDI interface + MIDI cable" or "UM-ONE mk2" or the like
  • When using an S-2416 unit: USB Cable

Note: Because some MIDI sequencer software is unable to correctly play back and accomplish this upgrade using SMF data that contains large amounts of System Exclusive messages, such as this update program, we recommend using a simple SMF player.

Caution when performing the update
  • Never power-off your S-4000R while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the S-4000R won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
