System ProgramFantom-G6/G7/G8 System Program Version 1.50
This system program updates the Fantom-G6/G7/G8 system program to the latest version 1.50.

- USB Memory Key is required for the update. Please be sure to read following part for proper operation.
- Fantom-G Editor/Librarian must be updated to Ver.1.20/Ver.1.30 respectively, for using with the Fantom-G updated to Ver.1.50.
- Including "FG Connects Live" package which emphasizes the powerful live performance potential of the Fantom-G, adding new patches, rhythm patterns, live sets, and Motion Phrases.
How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your Fantom-G.
- Turn Fantom-G power on.
- Press [Menu] button. Menu window is displayed.
- Press [F2 System]. “System Setup” screen is displayed.
- Press [F4 Info].
- Press [F1 Group/Up] or [F2 Group/Down] to select “Version Info” screen. Your current version number is displayed in the “Version Info” screen.
Note: If this shows the latest version (Version 1.50 or later), there’s no need to update your Fantom-G6/G7/G8.

What you'll need to update your Fantom-G
- Fantom-G6/G7/G8
- A computer running one of the following operating systems: Windows 7, XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X v.10.4.3 or later
- A USB-memory device (Roland M-UF1G or M-UF2G are recommended)
- The downloaded update file
Getting the update file
- Please open/extract the downloaded “fantom_g_v150_e.zip” file on your computer to get the update files named “fan_g_upa.bin” and “fan_g_upc.bin”. You will also find a PDF document for your information regarding updating to Ver.1.50 or what's in FG Connects Live.
Caution when performing the update ( IMPORTANT !! )
- Never power-off your Fantom-G6/G7/G8 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the Fantom-G6/G7/G8 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
- After you perform the update, you must delete the update file from the USB-memory device.
- We recommend that you use the “Backup Project” function (refer to the Owner's Manual). Please do not use “Save As Project” function.
- Please use “Restore Project” function to re-load the backup project file.
- Please turn the power off and on again after executing the Restore Project.
- Never transmit this update data to any product other than the Fantom-G6/G7/G8. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
Procedure for the update
- Copy the update files “fan_g_upa.bin” and “fan_g_upc.bin” onto the root directory of the USB-memory device.
- Un-mount the USB-memory device using the correct procedure, then disconnect from computer.
- Connect the USB-memory device to Fantom-G6/G7/G8 without the power turned on.
- Turn Fantom-G6/G7/G8 power on.
- Update processing starts automatically.
- About 20 seconds later, “Completed!” is displayed.
- Turn off power, and disconnect the USB-memory device.
Please verify the version number “SYSTEM Version 1.50” with the procedure described in “
How to know the version” part of this document.
In order to access the new contents, please perform Factory Reset.
If there is important data you’ve created that’s stored in the Fantom-G’s User memory, all such data is discarded when a Factory Reset is performed (
the data of the internal user memory will be lost). If you want to keep the existing data, save it on a USB memory or save it via USB to your computer. Please refer to the Owner’s Manual for instructions.
