How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your AR-200S.
Using the Terminal software (ex. Hyper Terminal that comes with Windows XP), you can identify the version number of AR-200S by RS-232C Version Request Command.
send to AR-200S: stxVR;
reply from AR-200S: stxVR:"AR-200S","1.04"," ";
* "stx" is 02H in hexadecimal.
It is different how to input the "stx" command according to software.
ex) Hyper Terminal that comes with Windows XP
stx: Ctrl + B
Refer to "AR-200S RS-232C Reference" for details regarding RS-232C connector control.
* If this shows the latest version, there’s no need to update your AR-200S.

    The phrase configuration file is updated only if the phrase file has been changed.
[Fixed Bug]
  • When you played the phrase by 'PLB' RS-232C command with setting the Control Out to 'ON', AR-200S kept outputting the Control Out signal.
  • When AR-200S received incorrect commands as two consecutive "stx", it lost control by RS-232C.
NOTE when using ARE-3000 with AR series Ver.2:
We plan to publish the ARE-3000 Ver.2 in the middle of November, 2010. You will be able to edit a CF card included WAV files on the ARE-3000 Ver.2.
There is the following limitation to the ARE-3000 Ver.1.05.
  • You cannot edit a CF card included a WAV file made with AR series Ver.2.
    * You can edit a CF card without a WAV file.
    * A CF card made with ARE-3000 Ver.1.05 is usable on AR-3000R/200R/200S Ver.2.

[Fixed Bug]
  • There was a mistake in the processing of CLIP LED when stereo recording. CLIP LED was lit around 9dB lower than an actual level.
    * There is no problem regarding recorded data itself at all. There is no mistake in the processing of CLIP LED when mono recording.
  • When you record the phrase by the RS-232C control, there is a case that OK/ACK has returned before stopping recording after receiving the ST command to stop recording.
  • When you execute RS-232C editing command, the %% command that AR-200S output automatically might contain incorrect value. there is a case that an value automatically output from AR-200S by %% command is incorrect. It is corrected. There is no problem in the processing of the editing command.

[Fixed Bug]
  • Protected phrases in CF card could be erased by 'CD' RS-232C command.
  • During continuous playback of phrases by 'PLB' RS-232C command, the AR-200S did not send BUSY OUT signal at interval of each phrase. BUSY OUT signal has been sent out properly.
  • During continuous playback of phrases by 'PLB' RS-232C command, the AR-200S did not send BUSY OUT signal at interval of each phrase. BUSY OUT signal has been sent out properly.
  • In Dual MONO MODE the AR-200Ss did not communicate the correct phrase numbers when given the 'AC' RS-232C command during R channel recording stand-by. This has been corrected.
  • It was impossible to interrupt RS-232C editing command properly.
[Improved Functions]
  • Phrase loop times of less than 10 frames are not allowed in the AR-200S, but this setting could be entered in some circumstances and then the loop phrases were not played back correctly.
  • When CF cards were formatted by PCs, the AR-200Ss might not be able to format the CF cards again. This update enables AR-200Ss to re-format CF cards formatted by PCs. Note: Formatting by AR-200Ss is always recommended.
  • In the event that the AR-200Ss received 'PLL' and 'PLR' commands during playback in Dual MONO MODE, AR-200S did not stop and replay from the beginning of phrases of L channel. This update has enabled to stop and replay phrased of both L and R channel as well as AR-3000 and AR-3000R.
  • Time to mount CF cards recorded many phrases has been shorter.
  • In the event that you released PAUSE using the 'PE' RS-232C command, the AR-200Ss played back the phrases but returned the 'ST' RS-232C command. Now phrases will play back without returning the 'ST' command.
  • In Interval Playback, if the 25-pin D-sub I/O connector kept having make-contacts for phrase playback, the beginning of phrase continued to repeat.
  • In the event that you re-started Interval play after stopping playback between intervals, Interval Playback was not played properly. The trouble has been solved.
  • In the event that you played another phrases during Interval playback, the later phrases was not played properly. In that case, 'ST' RS-232C command was sent unnecessarily. The trouble has been solved.
  • When you formatted CF cards in DUAL MONO MODE, trouble that phrase number display might be not switched was solved.

What you will need to update your AR-3000R
  • AR-200S
  • A Roland CF card
  • A computer with a CF Card Reader/Writer
  • RS-232C Cable

Caution when performing the update
  • If you update on the normal mode of AR-3000R against the correct procedrue, this update data may destroy the system program.
  • Never power-off your AR-3000R while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the AR-3000R won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded “ar200s_sys_v200.zip” file on your computer to get the update files named “_AR200S.PRG” in the “ar200s_sys_v200” folder.

Update Procedure
Never power-off your AR-3000R while the update is in progress!
Creating the Update Card
  1. Format a CF card by using AR-200S or AR-3000R/200R/3000/200.
    For formatting by using AR-200S, send the card format command to AR-200S from a terminal software.

  2. Using the CF Card Reader/Writer, copy update file "_AR200S_.PRG to the root directory of a CF Card.
Update Procedure
  1. Set to ON the SW5 of MODE SW on the AR-200S's bottom panel.
  2. Insert the Update Card to the AR-200S.
  3. Turn power ON.
  4. "GO " will be displayed and the program is written.
  5. The number being written such as "GO 1" will be displayed during writing.
  6. When the update is complete the display will show the checksum"0702"
  7. Turn power OFF.
  8. Set to OFF the SW5 of MODE SW on the AR-200S's bottom panel.
