Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard is Roland’s finest keyboard which faithfully recreate the natural touch and playing performance of a full concert grand piano. The keyboard employs real hammers rather than springs, and it has realistic touch resistance - lighter when playing soft pianissimo passages and stronger on fortissimo passages. It also has a lighter touch in the upper range and heavier touch in the lower range.
For ever more realism, Roland has incorporated its Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard with Escapement on some models. This mechanism faithfully reproduce the escapement characteristic of grand piano, with the slight "click" when playing pianissimo. Roland's digital pianos with Progressive Hammer Action Keyboard with Escapement have the most authentic piano touch available, and deliver each delicate nuance of your fingers perfectly and naturally, just like an acoustic grand.
Especially for the digital pianos with compact / stylish / lightweight body, another hammer action keyboard mechanism called “Compact Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard” was developed under the same design philosophy of acclaimed Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard. Although the unit of keyboard action mechanism itself is much more compact and lightweight, feeling and playability is quite similar to the regular Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard. Of course no coil spring is used in order to reproduce natural key touch.
