Fresh for Version 2 is a new bank of highly playable sounds programmed by top professional artists from around the world. Many of the sounds are familiar at first touch — sparkling EPs, lush strings, thick synth pads, etc. — but, in V-Synth fashion, all patches allow instant and exotic tonal changes via modulation. Start on familiar terrain, then launch your sounds into deep space V-Synth style! V-Synth patches can be customized with newfound ease thanks to the innovative Sound Shaper function, which allows you create new sounds with the virtual “know-how” of professional sound designers. By selecting your destination sound type — whether a pad, bass, lead sound, etc. — this macro function guides you quickly through relevant parameters while editing. Complex editing is made easy.

The V-Synth's variable oscillators are unlike any previous oscillator design, with a choice of three different types: PCM powered by VariPhrase, External Audio Processing, and Analog Modeling. The original V-Synth offered nine types of traditional, fat-sounding analog waveforms. Now, in Version 2, three new analog-modeled oscillators have been added: SuperSaw, for generating towering sawtooth waveforms, the Polyphonic Feedback Oscillator for
screaming sounds, and X-mod (Cross Modulation) Oscillator for creating clangorous distorted timbres. The V-Synth oscillators can be layered and mixed in several ways, or modulated* using FM, ring mod, and oscillator hard sync.

Instead of typical multi-mode filters, the V-Synth features two dedicated COSM processors for warping sounds in entirely new ways. It has all the traditional filters, but goes way beyond with algorithms such as voice-independent guitar amp modeling, or the unique Side Band Filter, which can add metallic pitch to non-pitched sounds, enabling you to create rhythmic chords from a drum loop, for example. The futuristic V-Synth can even go retro with the TB-303 filter. This, coupled with multiple sub-oscillator choices pumps out some serious low end. There’s also a Wave Shaper, Resonator (polyphonic waveform processing through a modeled resonant body like a guitar) and more. These tools radically alter any sound — including external audio — and take you beyond the capabilities of
traditional synthesizers. There’s also separate reverb, chorus and MFX for global effects processing.

Version 2 adds a powerful set of new programming tools to the V-Synth. The Multi-Step Modulator makes complex animated sound design easy with up to four parameters being modulated simultaneously. Stepped effects will be transposed perfectly as you play the keys. Use it to automatically sync sounds with other modulators. Create expressive drum kits with the new Rhythm Set function, which deploys complete V-Synthesis power separately to each key. Program a multi-dimensional, Time-Tripping swirling cymbal with Side Band Filter on one key, for example, a monstrous sub-octave kick on another, and so on — with each key offering its own independent realtime processing
parameters. And let’s not overlook one of the V-Synth’s most potent features — its advanced, programmable arpeggiator, which can be used to control not only notes, but synthesis parameters such as filter cutoff and envelope decay as well.

The real magic begins when you interact with the V-Synth's knobs and controllers. With the TimeTrip Pad, you can scan a waveform forward and backward using your fingertip. Imagine adding expressive articulation to a lead vocal sample! Or use the Twin D Beams to modify a range of controllers using infrared light beams. The V-Synth's arpeggiator can even modulate sound parameters. No other synthesizer provides this type of interaction and creative control.

Connect a variety of digital gear using the V-Synth’s S/PDIF I/O. The V-Synth supports a wide range of sampling rates — from 44.1kHz all the way up to 96kHz — making it compatible with the latest professional audio gear. The V-Synth’s USB port offers quick and easy file exchange with a computer. Import and export WAV/AIFF files with simple drag and drop commands (the V-Synth appears as a hard drive on your computer’s desktop). You can also back up your V-Synth data quickly and conveniently to your hard drive or an optional PC card. By purchasing readily available PC card adapters, you can connect other media like CompactFlash, SmartMedia and MicroDrives.

V-LINK is another approach to creative expression when combined with the Edirol PR-80 Digital Video Workstation or P-1 Photo/Audio/MIDI Player (sold separately). Use V-LINK to trigger video clips from the V-Synth’s keyboard, and use the bender to change playback speed. Manually scan video forward or backward with the TimeTrip Pad, or change colors using the Twin D Beams. With the Edirol V-4 Video Mixer, you can control a variety of video effects, such as multiplying images on the fly.
