Instead of using complicated concepts like MIDI channels and tracks, the RS-70's Loop Sequencer is based on sounds. To create a sequence, simply choose a sound and record. As the recording loops, additional sounds can be selected and overdubbed until all parts are entered. Realtime and step recording are both supported, along with Microscope editing.

With the new Multi Chord Memory function, musicians can play a variety of complex chords using a single note. Or trigger phrases at the touch of a key using the Phrase/Arpeggio Generator, which can be fully programmed and even recorded to the sequencer.

The RS-70 features Roland's popular D Beam Controller for controlling functions like pitch or filter cutoff using an infrared beam of light. The D Beam can also be used to control Roland's unique Active Expression feature, which makes it easy to fade in a second sound or change the volume and timbre. The RS-70 also includes a built-in floppy drive for loading GM/GM2-complatible Standard MIDI Files—plus Roland's exclusive V-LINK technology for triggering video clips*.
