The most responsive piano touch and perfect acoustic grand piano sound possible in a digital instrument

The keyboard on the KR-15 perfectly simulates the feel of an acoustic grand piano. It's Roland's unique, advanced Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard with Escapement, which gives you the same natural, responsive touch and playing performance as an acoustic grand. This mechanism faithfully reproduces the escapement characteristics of a grand piano, with the slight “click” feel to the keys. And because it uses hammers rather than springs, the keyboard realistically delivers every quality you'd demand from a world-class acoustic grand piano keyboard: a heavier touch in the lower range and lighter touch in the upper range; a lighter touch resistance on soft pianissimo passages and stronger touch resistance on fortissimo passages; and a vast touch difference between pianissimo and fortissimo, for a greater richness of expression. Its natural feel will let you express every delicate nuance of your fingers. And more, The Intelligent Grand Series incorporates the very latest advances in stereo sampling and digital sound technology that Roland has made through decades of meticulously studying and reproducing every detail and nuance of piano sound.

Advanced 3D Surround: just like on stage

The Advanced 3D Surround sound system delivers dynamic, resonant sound of almost unbelievable presence. When external speakers are connected to this instrument, the sound takes on a three-dimensional quality that envelops the player-and everyone else in the room. The piano sound comes from the piano itself, while the accompanying parts come from the external speakers, making it sound just like you're playing live, surrounded by a band or orchestra. And because the reverb parts are also delivered through the external speakers, you'll feel enveloped in the rich, vibrant sound of a concert hall performance. Your Intelligent Grand will produce the most overwhelming presence and the most astonishing depth of sound you've ever experienced from a digital piano.

Full-color touchscreen display

The full-color, easy-to-read, central touchscreen with six main control buttons gives you immediate command of all major functions, and makes using the KR-15 delightfully simple. Roland's remarkable DigiScore and its one-of-a-kind features bring you exciting, almost endless, new musical possibilities.

Roland's unique “Score Display”

On the KR-15, pushing the “Score Display” button brings up on the DigiScore onscreen display the scores from preset songs, Standard MIDI Files, or songs you record yourself using the onboard recorder. You can choose to display the staff along with the note name, finger number, chord name, or lyrics. Or, you can display the right-hand part or left-hand part only. An even larger score can be shown when the instrument is connected to an external display.

“Touch the Notes”

With the remarkable “Touch the Notes” function, just touch any note on the DigiScore touchscreen, and the instrument will play that note. Drag your finger over a phrase or series of notes to highlight them, and the keyboard plays back the phrase immediately, letting you check the notes both visually and aurally.

“Replay” pedal

Press the left pedal during playback, and the music stops. Release the pedal, and playback resumes from the start of that measure, so you can try that phrase again. Pressing the pedal repeatedly rewinds playback one measure at a time. You never need to take your hands off the keyboard, so you can stay focused on your lessons.
Using “Touch the Notes” and “Replay” together is a great way to practice. With the “Replay” pedal pressed, use the “Touch the Notes” function to listen to and check the sound of the note or phrase you missed. It's an effective way to make practicing more fun-and make your piano playing richer than ever.

Perfect accompaniment with the “Music Assistant”

The Intelligent Grand Series comes with advanced, easy-to-use auto-accompaniment features. You just play simple chords with your left hand, and the accompaniment automatically follows your lead on the melody, in your choice of several music genres. Your performance becomes much more exciting and entertaining. The “Music Assistant” is ideal too. Its intuitive, auto-accompaniment setup feature will choose a music style that best suits the song you want to play. You can change the accompaniment to different musical styles such as Latin or jazz, and add fancy introductions and endings to create a rousing performance.
