The HPi-6S offers an impressive lineup of performance features: Gorgeous 88-key multi-sampled piano sound, 128-voice polyphony, and a PHA II Keyboard that simulates a real piano feel, with a heavier touch in lower octaves and a lighter in upper register. It even faithfully reproduces the "Escapement" click feel of a grand piano action.The Piano Resonance feature causes subtle sound variations when lifting fingers from keys, striking chords, and pressing the damper pedal.

With a color flat-screen display built into the music rest, players and students can enjoy interactive instruction and notation display onscreen. Roland’s famous DigiScore provides a variety of songs, both pre-installed and loadable from USB memory. (The song that you just played can be shown on the DigiScore display too!) Just touch a button and the internal music starts playing on the screen, which displays the score in an easy-to-follow format — complete with an onscreen bouncing ball that bounces across the notes as they are played. The music comes alive right before your eyes.

The Visual Lesson feature acts as your personal interactive music tutor. It has three courses. Each of these includes independent exercises, 10 songs with variable levels, and Practice, Check, and Review screens. Visual Lesson also works with all internal songs, as well as Standard MIDI Files ―so there's literally no limit to the number of songs you can use.

The Notes you play appear instantly on the onscreen notation.

When you finish playing, the HPi-6S grades the accuracy of your pitch and rhythm, and provides simple onscreen advise.

Areas of your performance that need extra attention are "marked" right onscreen. Incorrect pitch is marked in red. Incorrect rhythm is marked blue. Extra notes are marked in green. It's truly interactive!

Also built into the HPi-6S is the DoReMi Course, which teaches the fundamentals of pitch, rhythm, note reading, fingering, and the "thumb under" technique. Wonderland is included as well — offering a fun, friendly graphical approach to teaching children about sound and rhythm.

With the Twin Piano function you can split the keyboard so two players can play simultaneously in the same register. It’s an innovative, entertaining way for a teacher and student, parent and child, or a pair of friends to practice and perform together.

For onboard music data, the HPi-6S includes 50 sampler songs from the acclaimed Microjazz catalog, a world-famous series of pieces based on classical technique yet using popular contemporary styles such as jazz, blues, rock, and funk. Combining Microjazz’s music with the visual lesson features of DigiScore, you can add an exciting interactive dimension to practice and performance.

For play-along enjoyment and skill-building experience, the HPi-6S lets you play back songs on CD*. You can even minimize the pre-recorded vocals with the Canter Cancel feature, and transpose the key with a Pitch Change feature. The HPi-6S can also playback audio files (WAV format) and Standard MIDI Files via USB memory.
