001 PH OrangWork |
An angular, menacing yet melancholy harmonic lead, inspired by the work of Wendy Carlos, especially the score to a clockwork orange. Upper and lower tones work well without each other too! Oh and play with the time trip pad on this one. |
002 PH WaspFlute |
A si fi flute sound that has a buzzy bass tone added when played harder. A good one for tweaking the cosm knobs, subtle but effective. |
003 PH ImpacTime |
The lower tone is a recreation of a Jupiter 6 sound from the orbital song impact, opening the filter of this sound live was one of the high lights of the set for me. The upper tone is a modern take on this sort of sound but done utilizing the strengths of the v-synth, its one of my current favourite bass sounds, sharp yet fat (if that makes sense!) so with this I’ve tried to bring together 2 different generations of Roland synth. |
004 PH VeloSteps |
This is a variation of the impact sound but with more rez and utilizing the step mod, comes into its own in a sequenced rhythmic environment. |
005 PH Vocal Ld |
I’ve called it a lead but its also a good thin pad/drone. Made of voices using the vari-phrase on extra slow, each tone is panned hard left and right for a very stereo sound without being overly showy. |
006 PH Xponder |
A sound in the ball park of the kind that I love getting on the oberheim xpander, not a copy just doing a similar kind of thing with rez and panning , again utilizing the upper and lower tone to get a good stereo effect. This time more showy! |
007 PH 2600Time1 |
Both variations on the same sound. I stumbled upon this and was amazed at how ‘arpish’ it sounded . At first quite dissonant but if you play with the duel formant/time controls it quickly becomes more tamed. Very 1970’s bbc radiophonic workshop. These sounds are really there as a starting point for front panel playing. |
008 PH 2600Time2 |
009 PH DoublGlaz |
A clean glassy tone with something of a bowed vibraphone to it. Good for slow sad leads or counter melodies. |
010 PH UK SiFi |
A sting in the style (to me any way) of British TV sci-fi, especially good around the bass end. I find its good played rhythmically in the lower octaves in a playing style similar to triggering loops. |
011 PH SoftSpike |
A staple sound for me, often the sort of think I reach for in the early stages of writing. Good for staccato punctuating chords or fast monophonic rhythms. In fact I have already started a track using this sound. |
012 PH LeadPad1 |
013 PH LeadPad2 |
Another staple sound for me, this sort of does the job of a sustained bright piano with out really sounding like one. I guess it fills the same sort of space. 412 is a plainer version while 413 is more detuned and wavy. Good at any octave a great starting place for writing. |
014 PH SuperBlip |
An electro style ‘blip’ that is good for all your fast, rhythmic electro melodies. |
015 PH PleasePad |
This is a sound I use live for a song called please, its a warm velocity sensitive glassy pad. |
016 PH Gloopy 1 |
Another sound from my live set for a song called gloopy. this is the main verse lead sound. |
017 PH Gloopy 2 |
This is a distorted voice like lead that I use live for the grand finally of the track! Sounds a bit odd in isolation but works well in the mix. |
018 PH SH-101 |
My favourite 101 emulation , again not meant to be a replica just a ‘Roland’ sound in the same vain. I find this a good starting point for writing or as a sound I grab second to move a song on. |
019 PH Unstable |
A good sound for chords as the initial shape has a nice bump to it, but then it gets a little, well, unstable but quieter so can still work as an interesting sustained sound. Good ethereal lead too. |
020 PH The Box |
Another live sound, this time for a song called the box. It’s a sort of dulcimer/piano sound used as a lead along with a real hammered dulcimer. |
021 PH AnalogStr |
A live staple this one. My favourite sort of analog style strings. |
022 PH Belfast |
Live synth bass for a song called Belfast. The filter in cosm 1 is slowly opened out through the first half of the song. |
023 PH AggroBass |
Another live bass sound, this time my favourite type of sustained woolly, fat fuzz. |
024 PH Reedy Flt |
A sound I made in an attempt to get a synthetic sound that had the shape and feel of a general wood wind instrument with out trying to be an exact replica, how did I do? you can turn on the ap synthesis for a brighter more authentic feel. |
025 PH AggroLead |
A live lead sound, I guess you had to be there at the time! |
