001 JR OhYeahBs
A very thick, fat analog bass sound. Can be used in higher registers as a comp synth sound. Pitch bend is normal, CC1 on the joystick introduces a very heavy vibrato. D-beam introduces a cool, funky filter envelope effect and flanger. TT pad opens up the filters a bit and brings in a lower octave near the bottom of the pad.
002 JR RhythmPad
A slow pad sound with repeating rhythmic backdrop. D-Beam morphs pad into a higher octave, while making the rhythm tighter and more distinct. TT Pad changes the timing and filter settings a bit, most noticeable when the D-Beam is held all the way down. Pitch bend is normal, CC1 increases the tempo of the rhythm
003 JR ScreamFbk
A lead sound with feedback generator in the background. Pitch Bend is whole step up, octave down. CC1 creates vibrato. D-Beam increases the volume of the feedback, and the TT pad changes the resonances of the feedback itself, as well as adding some detuing. Again, using the TT pad and the D-Beam together is most effective for musical results.
004 JR Fbk Drone
A slow, developing drone/pad sound that is intended to be played and held, allowing the motion of the sound itself to create interest. Pitch bend is normal, CC1 brings in heavy vibrato. D-Beam twists the nature of the sound heavily, so experiment with beam motions in very small amounts to find the magic. TT Pad does a lot, some filter settings, a little detuning, and some modulations. Small motions on the controllers is key here.
005 JR Lectrocut
A sound FX patch intended for use in a mix of ambience. Pitch bend is normal, mod wheel introduces a fast, light vibrato. D-Beam and TT pad motions combine to create changing sounds ranging from electrical currents to vinyl scratch sounds, and more. This patch is to be played more on the controllers than the keyboard.
006 JR MovingPad
Another slowly morphing pad sound. The real beauty of the sound is in its subtleties. TT pad gives a three-way change in filter settings, which themselves change naturally over time. The D-Beam changes the timbre as well, in a similar way to the filter changes, but using other V-Synth functions. Try using both sets of controllers together.
007 JR DigiDidge
A drone-type sound rising from a didgeridoo sample. Pitch bend down creates some very otherworldly creaking sounds. TT pad distorts the timing of the didgeridoo loop, moving forwards, backwards, and at a stop in between. The D-Beam changes the frequency output of the pad layer. Altogether a very lively sound.
008 JR Grunge Ld
A fairly straightforward lead sound, with some nice features: The pitch bend up adds a tasteful amount of grunge to the sound, due to the AP synth layer not bending at exactly the same rate as the other oscillator stuff. D-Beam does a divebomb, and CC01 gives a nice vibrato.
009 JR Smoove Ld
Another lead tone, this one more mellow. D-Beam opens up the filters and brightens everything up a bit. Mod wheel features a nice vibrato. Pitch bender gives a step up and an octave down for dive-bombs. TT pad adds a little modulation to the sound, on the left side of the pad.
011 JR FltyGrind
A noisy, grungy lead sound originating as a group of flutes, then distorted heavily. The airiness of the flutes gives the over-the-top noise and grunge to the distorted sound. Pitch bend is one step up, one octave down. CC1 is vibrato.
012 JR Wet Pipe
A very expressive, playable pipe sound from the AP engine. Not much from controllers, but very responsive to different playing styles and pressures.
013 JR Feelin'Wd
Another expressive AP instrument. Different feel than the Wet Pipe, a little more forward sounding. Not as mellow.
014 JR Ravin'Mad
A rave beat processed beyond recognition. It sounds like a party gone out of control, just slightly mad. TT pad twists the timing of the loop. D-Beam sweeps a band-pass filter across the middle of the sound. CC01 narrows up a sideband filter, to slowly force pitch out of the percussion sound.
015 JR 1NotePad
Uses heavy CPU power to morph a single (or sometimes two) note(s) into different sonic shapes, so that interesting pads and ambiences appear without playing more than a couple notes at once.
016 JR SlipNSlid
A deep hip hop groove, lightly sideband filtered and fed through a time-locked delay. A good hit-it and hold-it patch, operate the TT pad quickly for time effects, and the D-Beam to translate the bulk of the frequencies in the output up.
017 JR Harmonica
An out-behind-the-barn, lazy-summer-day harmonica sound, wonderful for those upper and lower-neighbor trills so commonly heard on the instrument. TT pad and D-Beam reduce the air pressure fed into the model of the harmonica itself.
018 JR Erhu Lead
Another fine example of a good lead tone coming from an AP oscillator running through a huge distortion. Pitch bend is one step up, one octave down, and CC01 introduces a nice, musical vibrato. Non-immediate release adds a little grunge to the trailing edge of the notes.
019 JR GlazedOvr
A lovely glassy pad sound featuring a lot of high-frequency activity and a nice, heavy delay. CC01 adds a very pleasant flutter to the sound, while the D-Beam does some timing modulations that add an unusual but enjoyable flange to the tone. Hold some notes long and let the magic of the high-end movement take you along for a ride.
020 JR TubeAnalg
This is a very cool hybrid wind / analog sound. It marries the past and present quite effectively, while somehow evoking a more distant history, before the times of electronics and oscillators! The TT pad changes the sound's character dramatically, try playing multiple notes while moving your finger across the pad, and try holding notes down to hear the effect. The D-Beam reduces lower frequencies and enhances the high mids, for a nice boost in the mix. CC01 is vibrato, and pitch bend is step up/octave down.
021 JR StrangPrc
Half in tribal lands and half in space, this sound is characterized by its heavy LFO-based modulation and its unmistakable, yet undefinable timbre. CC01 adds vibrato and Pitch wheel does its normal thing, both of which have very useful applications within this sound. TT Pad changes the time direction of the percussion samples, while the D-Beam switches up the pitch.
022 JR TapeShift
An analog pad sound, Eno-inspired, with some finely tuned filter settings. The filters both step and sweep through the sound on their own, giving a constant motion underneath all the player's controller movements. The D-Beam closes off the filters, while the TT pad opens them up. Using the two in combination create even more interesting changes. CC01 produces a heavy, fast tremolo effect.
023 JR SwirlKeys
An EP caught in a black hole comes to mind with this sound. The attack is definitely keyboard-based, but the sounds following defy the imagination. TT Pad filters and modulates the trailing sounds, so that the pads develop differently depending on your finger position. The D-Beam closes off the pads a bit, and brings out a more bell-like attack and ring in the EP layer. CC01 detunes the whole thing noticeably, for a rougher sound.
024 JR TangySynt
A synthesized clav with a lot of impact and an ear-catching presence. The D-Beam creates pitch effects which range between musical and outrageous. For really playable results, keep the D-Beam close to the instrument. The TT pad trips up the playback rate of the samples, which can have very extreme effects. The pad will likely remove pitch control from the sound, so keep that in mind as you play. A great sound for comping that needs to be heard!
025 JR MistryBll
Sweeping tinkles, drones, and light bells make up this soundscape. TT pad changes the timing of the tinkling bells to great effect. The D-Beam sweeps many filters a long ways, and causes the sound to break down spectacularly into noise. Low notes give a great bassy drone, while high notes provide a more pitch-less tinkle.
