V-Drums Stories > Percussion Sound Module

Developing an instrument that is uncompromising and unsurpassable.
Above all, the three elements that combine to raise the collective strength of the V-Drum as an instrument are (1) the interface (V-Pads, V-Cymbals, etc.), (2) sensing (shot strength, position, and drum-interval-detection accuracy), and (3) sound engine (expressiveness of the sounds themselves). Compromises cannot be allowed, because even a slight quality difference in one aspect during the development process will affect the overall balance. Each element relates intimately to the whole and creates balance at a higher level. We took this further by making sure the V-Drum was easy to use from a drummer's perspective. We ended up with an instrument that succeeds in every facet of its design

*Strike position and strike interval detection is only supported on the TD-20/TD-12.
Containing the latest technology, the V-Drum sound generator takes a drummer's individuality beyond the limit.
The strength of a shot, the striking position, and sound nuances that change based on strike intervals during repeated drumming — these are the important elements that define each drummer's signature. The sound module of the V-Drum contains a dedicated processor with cutting-edge technology to allow these varied and precise aspects of expression to be reproduced faithfully. The realism of dynamic sound changes created by shot strength and striking position, and the smooth sound changes created by repeated drumming such as rolls and flams, are perfectly recreated. Striking strength, striking position, and repeated strike intervals are detected and processed quickly and then output as sound with a high-speed response that is transparent to the drummer. Thanks to this technology, the V-Drum is able to stretch the limit of every drummer's creative potential.

Shell material and depth
For the shell material, you can choose among the three types: wood, steel, and brass. The body depth can be freely changed from piccolo to deep.
    Head material and tuning
Head material can be one of three types: clear, coated, and pinstripe. Detailed tuning is also possible. *Pinstripe™ is a registered trademark of Remo Inc., U.S.A.

    Muffling (mute)
You can choose among four types of muting methods for the snare drum, including Tape and Doughnut, and also four types for the bass drum including Weight and Blanket. Precise overtone adjustment is also possible.

    Cymbal size
The size of each cymbal can be changed from one to 40 inches and sustain can also be adjusted.

    Sizzler installation
The ride cymbal also supports sizzler installation. You can select between rivet and chain type according to preference. *TD-12 only supports rivet type.

    Beater selection
Three beater materials are available: felt, wood, and plastic. *Only supported on the TD-20.

    Snare resonance (buzz sound)
The snare resonance (strainer sound) when playing the toms and bass drum can be adjusted in eight steps. This adds a unifying factor to the drum kit as a whole. *This feature on the TD-12 only supports on and off.

    Mic setting
The mic position can be set for direct recording. Detailed sound customization is possible from the recording environment itself. *Only supported on the TD-20.
