"Acoustic guitar, there is a big dynamic range because of the size of the wood, the strings, maybe the strings are heavy the guitars are louder, how the actions are adjusted on the neck, all these factors. But then the electric guitar, you know like the same guitar player put the Fender stratocaster on, and now it's a different touch, light strings. And there are things that you can do with the electric guitar that will NEVER happen on the acoustic guitar, screaming, bending, feedback. This is a new instrument, electric guitar you know. For the guitar players maybe 30 years ago, 40 years ago when this started, this was a new instrument, and there were a few guitarist that understood, that the electric guitar was a new instrument different from acoustic guitar.

"Drummers, have the same opportunity now, to think of the V-Drums as a new instrument. It's not just a replacement for acoustic drums. In my mind I thought, here's an instrument that gives me more colors, to work with, more tools, more sounds. There are things that I can do on the V-Drums, that will never happen on acoustic drums. So I opened my mind to the possibilities, and I don't think of the instrument in the same way, because the bass drum doesn't have to be a bass drum, the snare doesn't have to be a snare drum, even though everything is in a familiar position, sound can be anything I want, like African drums. So this is a perfect example of how to have a musical adventure. |

"I'm also curious about where it will go in the future. My prediction is similar to the way there are musicians, guitar players who only play electric guitar, their career is based on electric guitar, for the first time in history it's possible that maybe there will be a new generation of drummers who play their electric drums, may be they don't play acoustic drums. It's very possible. I'm not saying that it may be normal, but this is a possibility, because it is a new instrument." |
